How to get recommended by AI assistants
When someone asks an AI assistant for a recommendation in your field, it answers with a few names. Here is how to find out whether yours is one of them, and what to change if it is not.
Why AI visibility is now part of SEO
More people now ask an assistant which tool, agency or shop to use before they search. The assistant answers with a short list, and if you are not on it, the person rarely goes looking for you. For many businesses this is becoming a second front page, next to Google's.
The models build that list from what they learned in training and, in chat apps, from a quick web search. Both favour businesses that are described clearly on their own site and mentioned on the sites the models read.
How the check works
We read your homepage, work out what you sell and who buys it, and write six questions a customer would ask without naming you. Something like "which invoicing tool is best for a freelance designer" rather than "is YourBrand good". Then we ask each model every question and record which businesses it recommends.
The score combines how often you were named with whether AI crawlers can reach your site. Being named in half the answers with a site the crawlers can read scores higher than being named once with a site that blocks them.
What to do if the models do not name you
First, make sure they can read you. The crawler checks show whether your robots.txt, your firewall or your reliance on JavaScript keeps them out. Any failed check there is worth fixing before anything else, because nothing else helps a site the crawlers cannot see.
Second, say plainly what you do. Models recommend businesses they can describe in one line. A homepage that says who you serve and what you do for them, in ordinary words, gives them that line. Structured data (Organization and Product markup) helps them get the details right.
Third, get mentioned where the models learn. That means the pages that already rank for your topic: comparison articles, industry roundups, directories your customers use and communities where people ask for recommendations. The businesses named instead of you in your report are a map of where those mentions already are.
Measuring it over time
One check is a snapshot. Models are updated every few months, and chat apps change their search behaviour more often than that. Save the report to a free account and we ask the same questions every week and email you when the answers change, so you can see whether the work is landing.
